Brunson’s Favorite Kelly Seals WSOP Bracelet

Brunson’s Favorite Kelly Seals WSOP Bracelet
Posted On 03 Jul 2010 By admin. Under Uncategorized.

"It definitely exceeds my expectations," said Kelly, following his win for an impressive $1,315,518.

"Hopefully I can keep winning. I want to win more bracelets."

The final saw the 21 year old American face off against some talented opposition, including Player of the Year and double-bracelet winner Frank Kasella, as well as Canadian Shawn Buchanan - who was making an incredible eighth cash of the series.

Frank Kassela was looking to emulate Jeffrey Lisandro's achievement of three bracelets in one series, but an anguished Kassela fell short when his two pair was harshly outdrawn by Buchanan's straight draw. Despite his elimination in third, Kassela's points tally is likely to see him crowned Player of the Year come the end of the series.

Buchanan may have had some luck versus Kassela but he was given a taste of his own medicine when he faced off against Kelly heads-up.

With most of the chips in the tournament in the pot pre-flop, Buchanan had his opponent in some trouble - holding pocket jacks to Kelly's dominated ace-ten, but a spiked bullet on the river changed everything.

Suddenly Kelly's enthusiastic supporters burst out cheering, and he broke out in a smile, saying later that he felt "surprise and excitement" when that fateful card swung his fortunes round.

"I was nervous at the start so it's nice to have people cheering you on," he added of his boisterous rail.

One side-note to the tournament is that Kelly is currently engaged in a four-way race with Michael Martin, Faraz Jaka and David Sands to lock up a place in the "Brunson 10."

"The Brunson 10" are a group of ten young players who will represent Doyle's Room - with the next choice whichever of the above four players performs best at WSOP 2010.

Kelly's bracelet success means he has almost certainly cemented his "Brunson 10" berth - assuming none of the others can do something incredible in the last few events of WSOP 2010.

Even if they have plans to make ground on the the latest bracelet winner, Kelly may just stand in their way.

Asked what he has planned next, he said simply with a smile, "I'm going to try and win the Main Event."

Jason The Dream : WSOP Day 14 Re-cap

Jason The Dream : WSOP Day 14 Re-cap
Posted On 11 Jun 2010 By admin. Under Uncategorized.

The day brought many twists and turns and without further ado - here they are.

Event #17 - $5k NLHE

Mooted as perhaps the toughest WSOP No-Limit Hold'em field in the series so far, the $5k was back in effect with 18 players still in the hunt for the bracelet.

Jeff Williams, David Benefield and Antonio Esfandiari were amongst the big stars returning to play to the bracelet but ultimately it was Jason DeWitt who saw off the heavily-supported Englishman Sam Trickett heads-up to win the bracelet and $818,959 first prize.

"It was the toughest final table I've played in," said DeWitt following his epic win.

Event #18 - $2k Limit

144 Limit aficionados returned for day 2 of the $2k Limit and after a tough day of playing through the streets, the numbers had been whittled neatly down to the ten players who remain in contention to win the bracelet on the final table.

The ten that will return tomorrow include Eric Buchman, who narrowly missed out on a WSOP Limit bracelet in 2006 but will have the chance to rectify that near-miss when they resume at 3 p.m. to play to the bracelet.

Event #19 - $10k 2-7 Championship

72 player returned from the 101 initial starters today and unsurprisingly, by the time they had played their way through the day, just 10 remained

Those ten names still vying for the bracelet have a definite ring of poker celebrity to them - with Erik Seidel, John Juanda, Daniel Negreanu and Andy Bloch numbered amongst them

David Baker is the man they will be chasing when they come back tomorrow to play out for the title

Event #20 - $1.5k PLO

Pot Limit Omaha is a volatile game at the best of times, and in a tournament situation this is more true than ever. 885 players arrived to test their fortunes but 790 of those were to be sent home disappointed with just 95 making it through the day.

Of those Christian Harder, Nenad Medic and Peter Costa are the big guns at the top of the leaderboard, though they will have to continue to run good and play good if they have designs on making the final table when they resume at 2.30 p.m. tommorrow.

Event #21 - $1.5k 7 Card Stud

There were 408 players nursing hopes of a Stud bracelet here, but the majority were left on the rail come the end of the day, just 128 making it through to Day 2.

2008 WSOP NLHE bracelet winner Scott Seiver proved he's not a one trick pony by tearing through the Stud field to lead the chip counts at the close of play.

He's got some way to go before he's the champion but when the remaining studs meet up in the Rio tomorrow, Seiver will be the favorite to take down the bracelet.

WSOP $50k Player’s Championship: Mizrachi Strikes Gold

WSOP $50k Player’s Championship: Mizrachi Strikes Gold
Posted On 02 Jun 2010 By admin. Under Uncategorized.

A toughly contested final saw Mizrachi come out on top in the early hours of the morning and both he and his many fans were elated at his victory.

"It's definitely worth the wait," he said. "This is one of the most prestigious tournaments in poker."

The backdrop to the final had all the ingredients for a dramatic finish.

The $1.5 million dollar first prize, the Chip Reese Memorial trophy, the WSOP bracelet and a star-studded field ensured it would be a special event.

However there was another plot twist - both the Mizrachi brothers, Michael and Robert, making the final. Fate saw to it that Michael eliminated Robert in 5th place on his way to victory and he explained he had mixed emotions about that bittersweet moment.

"My mom was crying. I don't know who she wanted to win. I don't know if I wanted to win!" said Michael.

"It was heartbreaking but at least it turned out well...I put his chips to good use."

He did just that, using the elimination of his brother as the springboard to success, fighting off the combined talents of John Juanda and David Oppenheim to face off against the largely unknown Russian Vladimir Schmelev, heads-up.

In the early stages, Schmelev was in the ascendant and a key hand saw Mizrachi's tournament life hanging in the balance. Needing a club on the river to keep his hopes alive, the right card fell and Mizrachi's boisterous rail brought the house down as their hero's fortunes turned round.

"I never give up...that's Rocky style," said Mizrachi.

"Usually when I get to a final table, I have this great support behind me. It really helps."

From there on in, it was all about Mizrachi as he dominated his way to the title and the $1,559,046 first prize. When questioned about his plans for the rest of the series, Mizrachi was confident about his chances.

"I can play any sort of game. I can play any sort of tournament," he said.

"Maybe I can win Player Of The Year. I'll just do my best."
