WSOPC New Orleans: Berger Adds A Ring
The business owner from Slidell, Louisiana added $197,584 to his more than $900k in career live tournament earnings with the victory, eight years after beating Chris "Jesus" Ferguson heads-up to claim the 2002 WSOP Pot-Limit Hold'em championship.
"I plan on giving ten percent of my winnings to charity," Berger said.
"That's how I do things. The rest of the money - I'll give it to (my wife). I hope she might stake me in a few future tournaments."
One tournament he won't need staking in is the 2010 WSOP Main Event as Berger's win in New Orleans comes with a $10,000 Main Event seat.
The $5,000+$150 buy-in event drew 156 players to Harrah's New Orleans creating a $745,600 prize pool from which 18 places were paid.
2009 WSOPC New Orleans champion Jean "Prince" Gaspard bubbled the final table finishing tenth.
Montana poker pro Ben Keiley began the final table with a huge chip and Berger in fifth.
However, Keiley busted third after the final three players agreed to a deal. Berger went on to defeat Mike Beasley heads-up.
The New Orleans main event marked the end of the WSOP Circuits sixth season. The schedule for Season 7 will be released during the 2010 WSOP.
